The Gauntlet

The Gauntlet is a parallel farm — a separate track from Open World Farming, built around specific quests and powerful, exclusive rewards. If you would rather not keep grinding Open World Farming, the Layers below drop the same Rum, Depleted Crystal, Special Carrot, Pointless Dagger, Legendary Talisman, and Ashen Remains used to upgrade Da Shirt and your legendary gear — a real alternative source, not just a side activity. Reach it through your Magic Stone, or ask around for King Rastakhan — he runs the whole thing.

King Rastakhan is both the Gauntlet’s hub NPC and its own vendor. Talking to him opens a menu with a few options: Gauntlet Items (his shop), Gauntlet Quests, Fragments, and Layers.

Layers and Difficulty

The Gauntlet has 3 Layers, each its own instance, each tougher than the last. Layer 2 only unlocks once you have cleared Layer 1 on Very Hard, and Layer 3 only unlocks once you have cleared Layer 2 on Very Hard — there is no way to skip ahead.

Difficulty is picked from a dedicated NPC standing inside the Layer itself, not before you enter: Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard, or DOOM (only difficulties you have already unlocked show up as options). You can change your mind and re-pick freely as many times as you want — it only locks in the moment you land your first kill on anything in the instance, and stays locked until you leave.

Layer 1 rewards (per kill, difficulty scaling shown at each step):
Layer 1 has 2 kill types: regular trash and a chain of 6 named Guardians (Harlan Sweete, Crab Pirate, Drov the Ruiner, Guarm, Overseer Korgus, Dreadlord — killing one spawns the next). Each Guardian in the chain also has its own reward multiplier on top of the difficulty scaling: 1.0x/1.5x/2.25x/3.375x/5.06x/7.59x from Harlan Sweete through Dreadlord.

  • Easy — Trash: 15x Rum, 10x Depleted Crystal. Guardian: 50x Rum, 25x Depleted Crystal, 1,000 Reservoir Anima.
  • Medium — Trash: 19x Rum, 13x Depleted Crystal. Guardian: 65x Rum, 32x Depleted Crystal, 2,500 Reservoir Anima.
  • Hard — Trash: 30x Rum, 25x Depleted Crystal, 15x Special Carrot, 10x Pointless Dagger. Guardian: 80x Rum, 40x Depleted Crystal, 25x Special Carrot, 20x Pointless Dagger, 6,250 Reservoir Anima.
  • Very Hard — Trash: 60x Rum, 40x Depleted Crystal, 20x Special Carrot, 15x Pointless Dagger, 15x Legendary Talisman, 10x Ashen Remains. Guardian: 100x Rum, 50x Depleted Crystal, 40x Special Carrot, 30x Pointless Dagger, 30x Legendary Talisman, 20x Ashen Remains, 15,500 Reservoir Anima.
  • DOOM — Trash: 80x Rum, 60x Depleted Crystal, 40x Special Carrot, 35x Pointless Dagger, 30x Legendary Talisman, 20x Ashen Remains. Guardian: 150x Rum, 140x Depleted Crystal, 120x Special Carrot, 90x Pointless Dagger, 60x Legendary Talisman, 40x Ashen Remains, 40,000 Reservoir Anima, plus a 20% chance at a bonus Ancient Munching Fragment.

All of the above (except the DOOM bonus fragment) is multiplied again by that Guardian’s own chain multiplier — Dreadlord (the 6th and last, 7.59x) at DOOM difficulty is by far the single biggest per-kill payout in Layer 1.

Layer 2 rewards (per kill)

Layer 2 is a named fight chain: 2 Faceless Ruiners (Twin Guardians) -> The Grand Executor -> Awakened Drest’agath -> (20% chance to also pull in Awakened Kael’thas Sunstrider on Medium+). Base rewards scale by difficulty: Easy 1.0x, Medium 1.5x, Hard 2.0x, Very Hard 2.75x, DOOM 4.0x.

  • Twin Guardian (each): base 10x Corrupted Blood Essence, 120,000 Reservoir Anima, 1x Orb of Light.
  • The Grand Executor: base 15x Corrupted Blood Essence, 220,000 Reservoir Anima, 2x Orb of Light, 1x Ancient Munching Fragment. Also drops Soul Fragment directly (not scaled by the multiplier above): 1-2 on Medium (100% chance), 3-4 on Hard, 5-6 on Very Hard, 7-8 on DOOM, and a 50% chance at 1-2 on Easy.
  • Awakened Drest’agath: base 25x Corrupted Blood Essence, 420,000 Reservoir Anima, 4x Orb of Light, 3x Ancient Munching Fragment. Also drops Soul Fragments directly: 1-2 on Easy, 2-4 on Medium, 4-6 on Hard, 6-8 on Very Hard, 8-10 on DOOM. Also drops Death Cache Tier 1 directly: a 70% chance at 1-4 on Medium, 2-5 on Hard, a flat 5 on Very Hard, a flat 8 on DOOM. On DOOM only, a 20% chance at Drest’Agath Soul.
  • Awakened Kael’thas Sunstrider (bonus pull, Medium+ only): base 80x Corrupted Blood Essence, 946,000 Reservoir Anima, 10x Orb of Light, 15x Ancient Munching Fragment, plus a guaranteed Soul of Kael’Thas.

Layer 3 rewards (per kill)

Layer 3 is a straight 4-boss chain: Globgrog -> Doctor Ickus -> Domina Venomblade -> Awakened Margrave Stradama (final). Trash mobs are still scattered through the Layer, but they drop nothing at all — every reward is concentrated in these 4 boss kills, so don’t bother detouring for trash here. Same difficulty multipliers as Layer 2 (Easy 1.0x through DOOM 4.0x). All 4 bosses drop Red Anima, Ancient Munching Fragment, and Soul Fragment on every kill, plus a 20% chance at Death Cache Tier 2 — amounts climb with each boss in the chain:

  • Globgrog: base 150 Red Anima, 5x Ancient Munching Fragment, 2x Soul Fragment, 1x Death Cache Tier 2 (20% chance).
  • Doctor Ickus: base 200 Red Anima, 7x Ancient Munching Fragment, 3x Soul Fragment, 2x Death Cache Tier 2 (20% chance).
  • Domina Venomblade: base 300 Red Anima, 10x Ancient Munching Fragment, 4x Soul Fragment, 3x Death Cache Tier 2 (20% chance).
  • Awakened Margrave Stradama (final boss): base 500 Red Anima, 15x Ancient Munching Fragment, 5x Soul Fragment, 4x Death Cache Tier 2 (20% chance).

At DOOM difficulty (4.0x), Margrave Stradama alone pays 2,000 Red Anima, 60x Ancient Munching Fragment, and 20x Soul Fragment guaranteed, plus a 20% chance at 16x Death Cache Tier 2.

Gauntlet Quests: talk to Rastakhan for “Gauntlet Quests” to pick up and turn in quests tied to this content, including a Kael’thas Sunstrider-themed chain. These are a real part of the parallel-farm loop, not optional flavor — they feed some of the boss-specific Soul items sold back to you at his shop (see below).

Munching Power

Munching Power is a permanent, per-character passive bonus to ALL stats (Strength, Agility, Intellect, Stamina, everything) — check your current bonus and progress with .maura at any time. Every 20 Power gained adds +1% bonus, capping at 580 Power for a maximum +30%.

You raise it by consuming Munching-line items

  • Ancient Munching Fragment — +1 Power each.
  • Ancient Munching Rune (+5 Power each) and Empowered Munching Rune (+10 Power each) — both bought from Rastakhan’s shop using Soul items dropped by Gauntlet content, not gold or normal currency.

Rastakhan also sells Gems of Power (permanent ability unlocks) and runs a separate Jewelcrafting system for socketable Regular Gems — see “The Gauntlet - Gems of Power and Regular Gems” in this Core Systems category for both.

Practical takeaway: The Gauntlet rewards patience over a single big push — Layers gate behind Very Hard clears and Munching Power caps out slowly over many Fragments. Alternate between this and Open World Farming whenever one starts to feel stale; both feed real, exclusive progression.
