Death Caches & Soul Stealing
Death Caches are lockboxes that contain random gear — open one by using it from your bags. There are three tiers, each from a different source:
- Death Cache Tier 1 — bought from Necrid at Survival Mode, 5 Death Essence each.
- Death Cache Tier 2 — a common reward from the chest at the end of a completed Mythic+ run (a major source once you are pushing keystones), and also from Challenge Rifts (levels 1-74).
- Death Cache Tier 3 — drops from Challenge Rifts level 75+, becoming guaranteed (and stacking higher) from level 100 onward.
Every cache has a low chance to contain an Uber item instead of a normal one. Uber items carry a flat health % bonus, high Corruption Resistance, and a notably higher item level than a normal cache drop — worth chasing specifically for that Corruption Resistance if you plan to use an Orb of Corruption on it later.

This whole system is best approached once you already have some Mythic 25 gear and a few Death Cache Tier 2 opened — it is not an early-game stage.
Two different tools carry a legendary power from an old item onto a new one, depending on the item type:
Legendary Soul Extractor — for legendary WEAPONS only. Bought from Koi, the Keystone Master, for 3,000 Soul Sphere. Use it on the legendary weapon you crafted in “Your First Legendary Weapon” to destroy BOTH the weapon and the Extractor, producing a Soul item (Soul of Banshee’s Blight, Dragonwrath, Thunderfury, or Shadowmourne — only these four legendary weapon powers can be extracted this way). Use that Soul item on whichever new weapon you choose to enchant it with the same power.
Soul Stealing Device — for legendary ITEMS that are not weapons. Can come from the Mythic+ completion chest, and also has a rare (10%) chance from Zereth Mortis rift content. It has two modes:
- Empty (Extract): use it on any non-weapon legendary item ilvl 500 or higher. This destroys the source item and captures its power inside the device.
- Charged (Infuse): use it on Ash and Blood specifically — it cannot be used on any other item. This permanently adds the captured power to the necklace and consumes the device. Ash and Blood can hold up to 6 legendary powers at once; once full, using the device again lets you pick which existing power to overwrite.
Getting Ash and Blood: complete the Revendreth quest chain (from Gera) for the base Memories of Ash and Blood necklace, then apply all three Empowerments (I, II, and III) to it — the upgrade will not proceed without all three. Then complete Miser’s questline for Memory Fragments and spend 10,000 Red Anima plus 5 Memory Fragments to permanently turn it into Ash and Blood.
Practical takeaway: never destroy an old legendary weapon or item outright — run it through the right tool first (Extractor for weapons, Soul Stealing Device for everything else) so its power is not lost for good.
